In the 16th century, Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus established a theory that changed our perception of our Solar System. The Copernican Revolution was the paradigm shift from the Ptolemaic model of the universe, (which described the solar system as having the Earth stationary at the center of the universe) to the heliocentric model (which described the as the Sun at the center of the Solar System.)
