At the time the promotional clips had purely just been promotional short clips. It broke the stigma when Queen created the Performative piece of Bohemian Rhapsody. This major video changed the landscape of the Music industry as the widespread notoriety that this 6 minute song ( which was extremely rare and seen as too long ) gained showed major labels that this sort of performative video was essential to creating a succesfull song.
