- costs of living rose
- wage demands increased
- international investors lost faith in the pound

Labour's Campaign:
- negative campaigning
- Churchill was called a war monger
- conservatives accused to bring back the unemployment of the 1930s
-Failure of the liberals, only 109 seats in 1950
