The Italian invasion of Ethiopia was the final nail in the coffin for the League. Italy, a major League member, had invaded a fellow member and the Leagues response was weak economic sanctions and didn't even limit the export of war materials to Italy. This showed the world that the League would not even protect its own members from each other, and was the unofficial death of the League, being no more than a meaningless organization now. And much like the Japanese invasion, it showed that a major nation state can do whatever they please and face little resistance.
