Without the fear of a nuke-wielding activist hanging over world leaders any more, there was a slight uptick in government overreach. The defining element of the decade or so was the astronomical rise in workforce automation, which would lead to some technical advances at the cost of human's liberty and employment. While the GDP of most countries rose consistently during this period, the actual wages and employment percentages of the world's citizens dropped to an all time low.

The global introduction of a Universal Basic Income for the citizens of the United Nations of the West would mostly curb this unemployment impoverishment crisis, but many would argue that the solution arrived far too late.
