After the global recession begun in the early 2020's, many of the world's old and reliable currencies fell out of favour, with some early-adopters switching to cryptocurrencies in the 2010's.

By the late 2020's, the world's many interconnected economies could no longer rely on the physical currencies of old. With the United States officially declaring the Digital Dollar as their new official currency in late 2037, the rest of the world soon followed suit.
