The displaced heroes from Crisis on Infinite Earths, Alexander Luthor of Earth-3, Superman and Lois Lane of Earth-2, and Superboy of Earth-Prime, set out to remake the old Multiverse at the cost of the current Earth, which leads to conflict with said Earth's heroes. During the conflict, Kal-L, the Golden Age Superman of Earth-2, is convinced by his cousin Power Girl and the main Earth Superman to turn on Luthor and stop the bloodshed, while Superboy of Earth-Prime is driven insane after an encounter with the Teen Titans turns violent, resulting in him donning the moniker of Superboy-Prime. Alexander Luthor almost completes his plan but is stopped when the conflict between the Supermen of Earth-1 and Earth-2 and Superboy-Prime destroys his machine. The Multiverse is partially remade, but in the following collisions between the various partially-formed Earths, only 52 universes survive, and New Earth (formerly Earth-1) becomes the center of the Multiverse.
