Local newspapers and newscasts reported a fireball observed in the skies over Kecksburg. According to some residents, they found an acorn-shaped object in the woods. The U.S. military closed off the area to investigate and reported no evidence of a crash. A model built for Unsolved Mysteries is kept on display by the fire department, which leads an annual UFO celebration.[97][98][99]
