In the mid-19th century, women spoke out that they did not have equal rights. At the beginning of the 1800s, they tried hard to get their right to vote. But that took a long time. Between 1878 and the amendment was introduced to Congress. But on August 18, 1920, it was ratified. They did everything they could to get it passed, they even went to jail for it or got physically abused when New York adopted women's suffrage in 1917. Even President Wilson changed his spot because then he could help out. On May 21, 1919, the House of Representatives passed the amendment and only 2 weeks later the Senate followed. The amendment passed its final hurdle. They were having an agreement of three-fourths of the state. Women's rights suffrage was long and difficult but they got through. But even some women were still not able to vote until the 20th century.
