On July 4, 1776, in the Second Continental Congress, America declared its independence from the tyranny of King George III and Britain. The colonists didn’t want to separate from Britain, they just wanted to be represented fairly in the British Parliament. Even after getting unfairly taxed and oppressed by the British Army, they still tried to negotiate with King George III several times, but every time the king refused. Eventually, our Founding Fathers had no choice except to fight for their freedom. Our founding fathers were taking a huge risk when they decided to officially declare independence. If the war went in the favor of King George III, all who signed the iconic document would be executed for treason, and, if the British would have won the war, the Declaration of Independence would probably be seen today as a sign of rebellion instead of a symbol of freedom throughout the world.
