Consequent upon the breaking of
Salt Law by Indian people, the Indian
National Congress was declared illegal
by the colonial rulers.

C Rajagopalachari (the
last Governor-General of India and had served
India during the freedom struggle) organized a
March on the Tanjore coast to break the Salt
Law in April 1930. He was arrested in April 1930
for leading a salt march from Trichinopoly to
Vedaranniyam on the Tanjore coast
