14 Jun 1777 Jahr - American Flag Established
Beschreibung:
On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress officially decided on the stars and stripes pattern for the official American flag. Since they declared their independence, they couldn’t fly the British colors anymore, making a new flag necessary for the newly born nation. Before the Continental Congress officially made the thirteen colonies independent, all of the colonies had their own flags, but when they were flown on ships, they were considered as pirate flags, and the crews would be executed by the British army. Every aspect of the new flag of the union was thought about. There were thirteen stars to represent the first thirteen colonies, along with thirteen red and white stripes, also made to represent the first thirteen colonies. The colors were important too, red stood for valor, white represents purity, and blue represented loyalty. The stars were also designed in a circle to symbolize that all of the colonies were made equal.
