The building and founding of Mount Rushmore was a very complicated process but as a result, now it is one of the most iconic sculptures in American history. It was first started built into a sculpture by Doane Robinson and others trying to find someone to do it. They decided on Gutzon Borglum. He started this project in the 1920s and it had a very hard time kicking off. There had to be bills passed to allow the sculpture to happen as it was on federal grounds where they wanted to build the monument. Once it did get kicked off though it was a very complicated process. It involved the government getting involved and the sculptor getting very very angry at them and saying he was under the government's eye. He just wanted to finish the sculpture and do other things like make the Hall of Records which was a building that was supposed to tell the story of how Mount Rushmore the game to be. But the government said no to this and made it so that all funding would dry up if they didn't just finish the monument. when the monument was about to be finished Gutzon Borglum died. Once they did finish the project though it now still remains one of the most iconic sculptures in American history.
