Beschreibung:

Signed by President James Monroe, the Missouri Compromise declared that all states north of the 36° 30´ latitude line would not allow slavery, and those south of the line would allow slavery.

Cause: More states want to enter the Union but have to decide to be either slave or free states.

Effect: Slavery banned above the 36 30 line in the Louisiana Territory.
