17 Mai 1954 Jahr - Brown v. Board of Education
Beschreibung:
The desegregation of schools that occurred after the ruling of Brown vs Board of Education on May 17, 1954 was a highly polarizing issue in American politics. The ruling declared the segregation of schools unconstitutional. This resulted in polarization in several ways. Racial division was vast as Black Americans and supporters saw the ruling as a necessary step towards racial equality. Many White Americans were upset by the ruling, which led to heated tensions between the two groups. Political division also occurred as many Democrats supported the civil rights movement and desegregation of schools, while many Republicans and souther Democrats were opposed. A large amount of souther Democrats even switched to the Republican Party as a result of the ruling.
