21 Jan 1890 Jahr - Wounded Knee Massacre
Beschreibung:
The chief of the Sioux (Sitting Bull) negotiates a return to the US (5 years after Little BH). They can return if they live on a reservation (in the black hills).
Ghost Dance = Sioux religious dance (praying for a return to life before white people). The US military viewed it as aggressive + as smth that could lead to a revolt. They arrest Sitting Bull w/ hopes that they can convince him to ban the ghost dance. During the arrest, someone fired a shot and more followed. Many Sioux try to flee but they are caught at Wounded Knee Creek. US soldiers try to disarm them and mostly do, except (supposedly) a deaf man refused to give up his new gun and a shot was fired which led to more. 300 unarmed died. Much friendly fire on US side.
Many historians view this as the end of the Native American Period/Resistance. It was the last conflict between US soldiers and an entire tribe. Many Americans viewed this as a victory.
