Also known as the Battle of Poitiers, this battle took place in northern Aquitaine, and saw the defeat of the invading Umayyad forces by the Frankish ruler Charles "the Hammer" Martel. Historians consider this battle to be of great importance, as it played a large role in halting the Islamization of Western Europe.
