South Central Los Angeles’ diverse cultural and multicultural populations made the Rodney King Riots of 1992 a more complex riot than the one that happened thirty years before. In 1992, three white police officers were acquitted in the murder trial of Rodney King, a Black man that was brutally beaten was caught on camera. The acquittal and years of racial inequality and violence ignited five days of rioting in Los Angeles and a national conversation about the racial and economic disparity and police use of force that continues today.
