17 Jul 1970 Jahr - Salinas Lettuce Strike (Cesar Chavez)
Beschreibung:
In 1969, the UFW was close to winning the Delano grape strike and believed that this victory would lead to hundreds of growers recognizing the union and negotiating contracts. Not just the UFW, but another group, the Teamsters, who represented 6,000 drivers and packing workers in the Salinas Valley, saw the end of the Delano grape strike as an opportunity. They went on strike on July 17, 1970, which prevented most of the nation's summer lettuce crop from reaching consumers. This resiliency to respond against injustice led to agreements that gave access to farms and the right to organize workers into unions.
