This is the day and year that my dad was born in Sinaloa, Mexico. The Mexican President of the time was Luis Echeverria Alvarez and his leftist rhetoric and actions created an unstable economy. This year brought the start of sharp economic depressions in Mexico that followed all the way to the 80s and 90s. The Mexican government was forced to devalue the peso by 45% during this year because of the unmanageable balance of payments and the intensification of capital flight. This led my grandpa to start migrating to the U.S. in search of work in the fields.
