31 Dez 1960 Jahr - Women Protesting Against the Construction of State University
Beschreibung:
In February of 1961, the university publicly announced their decision to build the state university at the Harrison-Halsted location.
Upon hearing the announcement, 300 residents gathered at the Holy Guardian Angel Church and planned that 50 women (mainly mothers of children who attended Holy Guardian Angel Church) to protest the next morning. However this wasn't the first time women protested against the construction of the State University. Because throughout all of March in 1961, members of the Harrison-Halsted Community Group (HHCG) protested and picketed outside city hall. Majority of the protesters were women and many sold food and organized fundraising event in an effort to save the community from demolision.
