Conflict of Missouri and Maine for admission as state (Maine join free, Missouri join slave). Compromise made in 1820 by Henry Clay to agree that both states join with their respective policies on slaves, but under these circumstances:
-Prohibit rest of Louisiana territory from allowing slavery
-Divide along 36 30' parallel
