From May 15 to July 9th, 1944, Hungarian officials received orders from the German SS to deport Hungarian Jews. During this time, around 440,000 Jews were deported to Germany or Poland. Most of these deportees were sent to Auschwitz, and when they arrived the majority were killed in gas chambers.
