VE Day, better acknowledged as Victory in Europe day, occurred on May 8, 1945, and is the day that World War II in Europe was coming to an end. With around five years of constant war and bloodshed, VE day was a day of celebration for many because, for the first time in years, they were able to step outside and not be terrified. Less than a year after the Normandy Invasion the war would be over for many as Adolf Hitler would commit suicide and Germany would surrender. Though many saw this as the end of the war President Harry S. Truman urged people to recognize that the war isn’t finished until Japan is defeated. As for the war that made many live each day in constant fear of the world, it was over and people felt safe again.
