The Battle at Midway was an attempt by Japan to get rid of America as a Pacific power so that they would be able to spread and take more territory in East Asia, and the way they decided to do this was to attack ships at Midway with multiple aircrafts. America was aware of this plan by decoding many Japanese communication codes in 1942. and when sending codes back they got a set place and when the attack would occur which was Midway on June 4 or 5. The Battle at Midway occurred on June 4, 1942, with an aircraft carrier dropping explosives on Midway, but when the Japanese were heading back to get more explosives and resources the Japanese navy quickly recognized that the US was aware and ready for the attack. Over two more days the battle continued with many ships destroyed, this battle ended with Japan abandoning the battle and retreating. The Battle at Midway stopped the growth of Japan over the Pacific and set the path for the US to take more and more from Japan little by little through years of battles and invasions.
