the first documented Chinese in America arrived in Baltimore harbor. Three Chinese seamen, Ashing, Achun and Aceun, from Guangzhou landed in the continental United States aboard the ship Pallas. Captain John O’Donnell, commander of the merchant vessel, neglected to tell his crew that he planned to retire in Baltimore, instantly stranding a total of 32 sailors.
