During the summers Joe tried to do multiple jobs to earn money to go back to school the next year. Earlier in his life he was known for logging, clearing tree stumps, bailing hay, and doing a ton more to help out farmers. Later in life, he was known for building highways and clearing rock to build the Grand Coulee Dam.
