The vampire Aurelius is killed attempting to open a Hellmouth in Basel, Switzerland. The ritual collapsed the Hellmouth, and caused an earthquake which destroyed the city of Basel and caused much destruction in a vast region extending from Paris to Prague. Heinrich Joseph Nest takes over leadership of the cult, ordaining himself The Master.
