Heinrich Joseph Nest comes to Sunnydale in an attempt to open the Hellmouth and release the Old Ones. However, the ritual causes an earthquake which destroys half the town. The slayer a the time, Kendra Young, sacrifices herself to stop the ritual and trap the Master in the aperture of the Hellmouth, out of phase with reality.
