In 1781, a combined American force of Colonial and French troops trapped the British Army at Yorktown, Virginia. The battle of Yorktown was the last major land battle from the American revolution. The final and decisive attack took place on October 14th, the Americans captured two British defenses. Surrounded, outgunned, and running low on food lead to the surrender of the British forces lead by General Cornwallis. After this one sided battle, negotiations between the United States and Great Britain began at last.
