Description: The French were the last of the Allies on the European continent, and the Germans could now just go around the Maginot Line. The French were not ready for Germany's new type of warfare and civilians were bombed and machine-gunned creating great panic and disorder. Once France fell Vichy France was created as a puppet government and was led by Philippe Pétian. Other French leaders fled and made Free France which was led by Charles de Gaulle.
Significance: The first major allied power to fall to the Axis powers.
