Wife of Martin Luther Katherina was a nun in Germany during the Reformation. Martin Luther helped a group of nuns leave a convent, finding husbands for all but Katherina. He married her, himself.
The Reformation (and the Luthers) changed the way men and women thought of marriage, and they modeled a marriage of two people working together to raise their children and grow closer to God. Thus, the Luthers helped ordinary wives and mothers believe that they, too, were important and able to honor God with their lives.
