Benito Mussolini was an Italian political leader who became a fascist dictator of Italy. He ruled Italy from 1922 - 1925 as Prime Minister, and then from 1925 - 1943 as Dictator.
In 1919 created the Italian Fascist movement, which eventually became the National Fascist Party. Mussolini and his supporters, the Blackshirts, decided to seize power by force. They marched on Rome on the night of the 27 - 28 October 1922, demanding the resignation of Italian Prime Minister Luigi Facta, and Mussolini hence became the new Prime Minister.
Over the course of 1925, he became the official Head of Government, giving him and his Fascists complete control over the Government and Parliament.
Fascist regime caused economic hardship and loss of basic human rights. It transformed Italian society, as fascism affected all areas of life, and many families living standards lowered.
Mussolini was demoted by Italian King Victor Emmanuel III in 1943 and executed in 1945. His body was publicly displayed to prove that he was dead.
