The primitive microscope can be said to have been discovered by accident, as a father and son, Hans Jannsen and Zacharias Janssen layered lenses and discovered that objects were significantly enlarged. The Janssen microscope was a significant discovery in scientific instrumentation. The Dutch eyeglass maker, Zacharias Janssen, created the tripod-like ‘device’ made from brass. It consisted of the main tube and an ebony disk with a concave lens at one end and a convex lens at the other. The combination of lenses bent light and magnified objects from 3 to 9 times. At the time the Jannsen microscope was not used for any signifcant findings until half a century later with the theory of blood circulaiton in accordance to findings of capillary vessels in the lungs of frogs.
