28 Jun 1919 Jahr - Treaty of Versailles
Beschreibung:
The Treaty of versailles was signed on the 28th of June 1919 officially ending the war between Germany and the allied powers.
In the contentious War Guilt provision, Germany was held responsible for starting World War 1 and required to pay a significant debt.
A significant contributor to the start of World War 2 was the Treaty of Versailles. Germany reluctantly signed the Treaty of Versailles, while the United States rejected it.
France and Britain first tried to implement the pact, but in the years that followed, a number of revisions were made. Germany disregarded the pact's constraints on its ability to re-arm.
Once the Great Depression hit, efforts to make reparations were abandoned because they could not be paid. Although the League of Nations was in operation for 26 years and experienced some early successes, it was unable to advance general disarmament or put an end to international wars. It did, however, pave the way for the United Nations' later establishment.
