7 Jul 1898 Jahr - Annexation of Hawaii
Beschreibung:
The annexation of Hawaii was passed by McKinley because Americans feared that the Japanese settlers would invade. Millions were coming from their home towns to get involved on the sugar trade. Americans had also believed that they needed to expand out to the Pacific ocean to gain united power and control. This event in history is important because the U.S. desired economic growth that they believed could have been taken by Europeans.
President Cleveland stated this in a speech:
"Hawaii has reached the parting of the ways. She must now take the road which leads to Asia, or the other which outlets her in America, gives her an American civilization, and binds her to the care of American destiny."
