After recent reports suggested Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were expecting their first child together, the actress' father has said the couple will wait till after they're married... which isn't likely to be too far away.

The 28-year-old and her Hollywood actor beau, who got engaged at Christmas, are planning to wed in the autumn according to her dad David, Grazia reports.

'There is a right way to do things and she and Johnny are the type of people that do it right. We will have grandchildren, but after the wedding', he told the magazine from his Los Angeles home.

He went on to say that it was Johnny, 50, who was keen to marry Amber, after previously splitting from his ex Vanessa Paradis in 2012.

'It's the time in Johnny's life where he is thinking he can spend more time with the kids', David added.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star - who met Amber on the set of The Rum Diary in 2010 - is already father to a son and daughter from his previous relationship.

Discussing his reluctance to wed Vanessa, he told Télé 2 Semaines magazine earlier this year: 'Sometimes, even things that seem simple and obvious are scary.

'I think age, experience and wisdom give us the capacity to move beyond certain stages we didn't dare cross before.'
