Eisenhower believed in the domino theory. It stated that if one country in Southeast Asia fell to communism, the rest would follow also. This happened when nationalist forces led by Ho Chi Minh invaded Vietnam. The French asked for aid from the U.S, but the Eisenhower refused which led to the defeat of the French. This event would lead to the Geneva Accords which separated Vietnam into North and South Vietnam. This would later on lead to the fall of Vietnam itslef.
