Description: The Arizona Board of Nurse Examiners (AzBN) was established to oversee nurse training programs and register nurses after they received education from credible organizations. At this time only 3 organizations where fit to receive accreditation by the AzBN.
The Board did not start without a little push from the ASNA. They accepted a loan of $259 from the ASNA to cover start-up costs (Scheffer, 2014).
Reflection: For nearly 100 years the AzBN continues to strive for excellence in nursing education for Arizona's nurses and student nurses. As of 2001, the AzBN oversaw 31 RN programs, 8 LPN programs, 130 NA programs, 20 Advanced practice programs, 3 Medication Technician programs and 12 refresher programs (Randolph, 2001). This is a tremendous growth compared to the original 3 nurse training programs back in the 1920's.
