John Hampden had a personal link to such officials as William Fiennes the earl of Warwick and john Pym. all of which had contrasting opinions towards the crown's behaviour and performance.
Charles took John Hampden to court upon the act of refusing to pay ship money Charles made a big deal for this on a Petty crime to reestablish his power and authority he wheeled as he for people were becoming a lot more lenient on his rules
but the case sprung up a lot of constitutional issues within the collection of ship money as a hole and even though it was won in Charles fairer to 7 judges to 5 it was not a success in his eyes and nor thought it has been as it was an embarrassing on how Charles only just won.
