A proclamation made by the King, stating that the new land claimed by England after the French and Indian War could not be settled by colonists. England was already largely in debt because of the French and Indian War, and did not want to finance another war with the Native Americans living in the new land. The colonists were angered, since they were fighting this war with the end goal of colonizing the new land they would claim.
