1 Jan 603 Jahr - Fighting Between the Scots and English Kings
Beschreibung:
Seventh-century England was still a divided country, split into different kingdoms. Conflict arose between these different kingdoms, and with the Scots.
The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle ( c.9th century) describes:
"This year Aeden, king of the Scots, fought with the Dalreathians, and with Ethelfrith, king of the Northumbrians, at Theakstone; where he lost almost all his army. Theobald also, brother of Ethelfrith, with his whole armament, was slain. None of the Scottish kings durst afterwards bring an army against this nation."

What does this tell us about peace?
The author of the chronicle believes that no Scot will not dare try to battle any of the English kings again because King Aeden lost so badly before. The peace maintained here is solely built on the fear of repeating past defeats.
