The Egyptians were the first to invent a calendar based off of the solar year, with one of their years being 365 days. They also had a lunar calendar that was based off of the cycles of the moon. The Egyptian calendar was eventually edited by Ceasar, who added leap days. The modern western calendar is based off of this calendar.
