9 Jan 1854 Jahr - The Kansas-Nebraska Act 1853
Passed to try and keep conflicts in the
north and south at bay, however, it ended
in more violence. New states Kansas
and Nebraska could vote if they wanted
to be a slave or free state based on
popular sovereignty. When the election
came, many people from Missouri
crossed the border illegally and voted
in favor of slave states. This turned into
what is known as Bleeding Kansas and
would cause more sectionalism between
the North and the South.
