After Napoleon returned to France, the allied powers of the Napoleonic Wars came to defeat him once and for all. Faced with the Prussian and English armies, Napoleon attempted to destroy each force individually, but after driving both forces to Waterloo the armies combined and beat back the French. After multiple attempts, Napoleon sent in one last desperate attack of the French Imperial Guard, only for it to be beaten back. The Prussian began to break through the French right flank, and seeing this the Duke of Wellington launched a powerful counterattack into the French center. This final blow routed the French army, and was Napoleon's final defeat. He abdicated, and was moved to the island of Saint Helena where he died six years later.
