The HyRail Namibia, project to create the Africa’s first dual-fuel hydrogen-diesel locomotive, has been launched:
• This is intended as a pilot for possible conversion of national railway TransNamib’s entire fleet of around 40 locos, and other fleets across Sub-Saharan Africa.
• The project was selected to receive funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
• The project is expected to be completed in 18 months and will cost 7,6 million euros.
