20 Jun 1790 Jahr - Hamilton's Financial Plan and
the Compromise of 1790
Beschreibung:
As secretary of the treasury, Hamilton created a financial plan to try to help the new nation's financial problems. The plan was to;
Pay off the national debt at face value and have the government take the war debts of the states
Protect the young nation’s andustries and collect revenues by imposing high tariffs on importing goods
Create a national bank for depositing government funds and printing currency.
However, the Anti-federalists disagreed with the plan as they didn't think the Constitution let the government create a national bank and they viewed the plan as benefiting the rich from the work of the poor. In order to get the Anti-Federalist's support, Hamilton agreed to Jefferson's idea to make the future Washington, D.C. to be the capitol which was the Compromise of 1780
The importance of this was that it established the American bank that creates the bank notes that we use now.
