A swarm of NATO aircraft begin targeting Russian territory such as Kaliningrad and military targets within Ukraine and Russia, intentionally trying to avoid killing groups of Russian soldiers and instead taking out supply depots and military vehicles to prevent a heavy military response.
In response, Russia launches a nuclear missile at an American aircraft carrier strike group in transit of south Japan toward China. The carriers avoid most of the blow, but many still die due to the pressure wave. War is officially declared on Russia.
