Japan launched an attack on Manchuria. Within a few days Japanese armed forces had occupied several strategic points in South Manchuria. The United States Minister believed that the attack was planed for a long time and was "an aggressive act by Japan". This attack put the US and Japan on each others backs and was a big reason for the US joining the war and why Japan attack Pearl Harbor
