3 Apr 1948 Jahr - Marshall Plan
Beschreibung:
- Economic Aid to all countries in Europe whether the country was under communist influence or not
- Communism spreads in weaker countries as it is one way to recover from its economic problem
- With financial aid, it would make Communism unattractive
The plan was a generous gesture but not entirely an act of kindness.
Stalin saw it as an attempt by American businesses to dominate Western Europe by using economic domination and dependence (money imperialism) which would eventually give it political control.
If the USA was determined to 'buy' Western Europe with its money, then he was determined to control Eastern Europe with its Communist allies and the Red Army.
The aims and reach of the Marshall plan:
- To build a prosperous Western Europe able to resist Communism
- 16 countries including Britain, France and West Germany
- US$13bn in total of aids/loans
- Divided Western and Eastern Europe economically
- Western Europe developed faster than Eastern Europe
